The Ohio Senate has approved Senate Bill 207, introduced by State Senator Stephanie Kunze, which establishes September 19th as "Stillbirth Prevention Day."

"This legislation was brought to me by Dr. Michael Bullock after his daughter experienced the devastating loss of her infant, Miles," said Kunze. "Although this was a time of grief and sorrow for the Bullock family, the family's resilience provided them with a newfound purpose of helping others throughout the difficulties of pregnancy and infant loss. I am grateful that this day will bring awareness to this cause."

Statistics from the Ohio Department of Health indicate that stillbirths occur in about one out of every 160 deliveries across the United States.

“Stillbirths are a devastating tragedy for families, and women of color are at a higher risk,” said Craig. “That is why it is imperative that we pass this crucial piece of legislation that will lend awareness to all the individuals and families that face the challenge of overcoming a loss of this magnitude.”

The bill now moves to the Ohio House for further consideration.
