The Ohio Senate has approved Senate Bill 235, a bipartisan initiative sponsored by State Senator Stephanie Kunze and State Senator Vernon Sykes. The bill aims to designate the first full week in May as "Public Service Recognition Week" in Ohio.
Senator Kunze emphasized the importance of public servants, stating, "Public servants are our friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Ohio's public servants are the fabric of our communities. Each and every day, they work hard to make the Buckeye State great. They teach our children, deliver our mail, keep us healthy and safe, build and maintain our infrastructure, ensure free and fair elections, and much more."
The proposed legislation seeks to align Ohio with the federal government’s recognition of Public Service Recognition Week, which has been observed since 1985.
Expressing his satisfaction with the bill's progress, Senator Sykes remarked, "I am happy to see my colleagues support Senate Bill 235. Public service is a virtue and this designation is just a token of the appreciation and gratitude we owe to those who perform this invaluable work in Ohio."
The bill will now proceed to the Ohio House for further consideration.
