Fifteen young good citizens were treated to a special day as part of Heroes and Helpers, organized by the City of Hilliard Division of Police.

The event, which took place Dec. 10, started with officers picking up each child from their homes in a police car.

Then, each pair went to Target for a shopping spree, which was funded by officer donations with assistance from Target’s Trueman Boulevard store.

After spending the morning shopping, officers and children went to the police station for lunch and a holiday party. Volunteers with the Hilliard Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association wrapped the gifts.

“Many of the children made sure to pick out something special for their family members, pets, and even the Toys for Tots trunk,” said Officer Michael Deaton, who organized the event. “It was heartwarming to see these young people including others in their shopping.”

Families also received a Blessing Bag of groceries through Sahara Columbus and a gift card for a ham or turkey from The Refinery Church.

Children are selected for the program with the assistance of Hilliard City Schools.
