The City of Dublin credits its City Council members, active residents and dedicated employees for increasing Dublin’s Municipal Equality Index to a perfect score, reflecting the community’s drive to be the most sustainable, connected and resilient global city of choice for all.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has published its 2022 Municipal Equality Index (MEI) Scorecard, a ranking that examines laws, policies and services and how they are inclusive of LGBTQ+ people who live and work in a municipality. HRC rates a total of 506 cities throughout the country on 49 different criteria.
Dublin received a 100-point score, increasing its index from 45 in 2021.
Robin Myers, the City’s talent development and training manager who has helped facilitate Dublin’s data for HRC, cites collaboration from all involved for the enhanced score.
“This is a great accomplishment for the City,” Myers says. “It not only recognizes the collective efforts from our staff, but also City Council and residents’ unwavering commitment to build a more inclusive and welcoming community. Having Dublin’s pledge to diversity, equity and inclusion reflected in this score reminds us to keep pushing above and behind for our workforce and residents.”
Some Citywide Highlights:
Dublin City Council created the Chief’s Advisory Committee (CAC) in August 2020 and the Community Inclusion Advisory Committee (CIAC) in November 2021; both groups continue to meet monthly.
In August 2021, City Council accepted the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Framework, which the CAC and CIAC use as a guiding document to inform their work.
In November 2021, City Council unanimously passed a non-discrimination ordinance, creating city-level protections for people experiencing discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, among other protected statutes. Protections focus on housing accommodations, employment practices and public accommodations.
The City has two LGBTQ+ liaisons, including a liaison embedded at the Dublin Police Department, who communicate with the public and look at policy through an LGBTQ+ lens.
