Summer Pool Offerings Adjusted for Limited Staffing

34

The City of Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department’s top priority is always the safety of our community. We also are committed to providing clean, enjoyable, family-friendly facilities and experiences.

Balancing these goals has been challenging this spring. City staff has taken unprecedented steps to hire enough lifeguards to ensure we can safely open the pools and provide clean facilities, but it has not been possible to fill all the necessary positions.

The Hilliard community mirrors a national trend of extremely low unemployment and high competition for available workers. Most of the City’s lifeguards are high school and college students who also have many opportunities for work in both the public and private sectors.

As a result of this staffing shortage and the need to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, the City will open our pools with some limitations for 2022. The Hilliard Family Aquatic Center in Municipal Park will open the main pool, but there are not currently enough lifeguards to safely operate the lap pool, lazy river, slide pool and interactive pool on most days.

Staff will continue to evaluate our ability to operate amenities in our pools. For now, we look forward to providing a safe aquatics experience to our community with limited staffing.

Rec and parks is continuing to hire more lifeguards to best serve our community. Open interviews will be held at the HFAC in Municipal Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 2 (and those who interview will receive a free day pass to swim.) You can also still apply for lifeguard and other positions at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cityofhilliard.
