Hilliard to Host Arbor Day Ceremony

42

Hilliard’s annual observance of Arbor Day keeps growing, just like a tree.

This year, the City of Hilliard will celebrate Arbor (or Tree) Day on April 29 at Brown Elementary School with Kindergarten through fifth grade students. The event will include remarks from City of Hilliard officials and two tree plantings with City Forester Andrew Beare.

The trees, a river birch and a paperback maple, will be planted at 1:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. at Brown Elementary School.

“Trees have so much value, and we want to show that to the community” said Beare. “That’s why we chose to plant them in an area that will provide shade for the school’s play areas for years to come.”

Friday’s event also serves as the City of Hilliard’s official recognition as a Tree City USA. Hilliard achieved Tree City USA recognition in 1981 by meeting the program’s four requirements: To be named a Tree City, a community must meet four standards: have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an annual Arbor Day observance.
