City of Hilliard: Officers Seum, Okey recognized upon retirement

25

City of Hilliard issued the following announcement on February 7.

Two City of Hilliard police officers were recognized for their contributions to the Hilliard community upon their retirements on Friday, Feb. 4.

Officers Rob Seum and William Okey have each served with Division of Police for more than 20 years in a variety of roles.

Officer Seum was hired March 27, 2000. He has served as a patrol officer, member of the crash investigation team, and a detective.

As an investigator, he was the first Hilliard officer to work on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a national network representing 5,400 federal, state and law local enforcement agencies dedicated to investigating internet crimes against children.

Over the years, Officer Seum has earned his certificate as a master criminal investigator through the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and been awarded more than a dozen achievement citations and multiple distinguished service awards.

Officer William Okey began his career in Hilliard on Oct. 29, 2001. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Officer Okey spent much of his career serving as a third-shift patrol officer. More recently, Officer Okey served as a School Resource Officer.

Residents knew Officer Okey for his bravery and compassionate demeanor that prompted one individual to write a letter saying he made them “feel safe.”

Along the way he received Achievement Citations, Commendation Citations, a Distinguished Service Award, the Award of Valor, and a Life-saving Award.

Chief of Police Eric Grile said he is proud of both officers and their service to the Hilliard community.
