City of Hilliard issued the following announcement on January 26.
Each year, Hilliard’s Snow Warriors take steps to adequately plan and prepare for the approaching winter season. The City’s winter weather plan keeps Hilliard accessible during a snow or ice event and ensures proper utilization of City resources.
Winter Weather Plan
All City of Hilliard streets receive snow removal service according to the following priorities that have been established based on traffic volumes and speeds:
Priority 1
Major arterials are salted and plowed first (if two or more inches of snow accumulates). These streets will continue to receive treatment as long as weather conditions continue. Examples of these streets are Cemetery Road, Britton Parkway, Main Street, and Avery Road.
Priority 2
Minor arterials are next, which include the main connecting roads and roads through subdivisions. These streets will be plowed and salted once priority 1 streets have received treatment.
Priority 3
Residential streets that generally go through subdivisions will be serviced once priority 1 and priority 2 streets are cleared. These are generally not included in salt routes.
Priority 4
Cul-de-sacs, courts, and non-through streets and alleys paths will be cleared, if necessary. These are not included in salt routes.
Priority 5
City parking lots, sidewalks, curb ramps, and paths are the final areas to be cleared. These are salted based on traffic volume.
How you can help:
- Do not shovel or plow snow into City streets
- Do not shovel or plow snow into driveway aprons
- Do not shovel or plow snow around fire hydrants or mailboxes
- Keep distance from the snow plows
- Remove parked cars from the street
- Do not attempt to pass a snow plow
The City of Hilliard has launchedSnowPaths, a new fleet tracking software. The public can now track the City’s snowplows, pickup trucks, leaf vacuums, and chipper trucks.
The system uses in-truck GIS technology to log and share data in real-time for that truck. Some of the trucks even sport unique names chosen by the community.
