Prince of Peace Lutheran Church issued the following announcement on January 15.
As Pastor Morris announced last Sunday, our church is embarking on a new initiative to assist national and local agencies in the resettlement of Afghan refugees in Central Ohio. Many of these people and their families took great risk in working with both the US Military and the US State Department. The federal government is now relocating these refugees to US cities, including Columbus.
Prince of Peace and its mission teams, along with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services have partnered to help in the resettlement of 50-75 Afghan refugees in mid-February. Their needs are vast, including housing, clothing, employment, medical care, transportation, and financial assistance, to name a few.
LIRS and ETSS have provided specific instructions on how and when we can best donate our time, talents and goods to help these individuals, and first priority are furnishings for living and sleeping spaces. We are looking for donations in the form of:
-Full or twin bedframes and new (or gently used) mattresses
-Sofas, chairs, and loveseats
-Coffee tables and end tables
-Lamps
-Dining tables and chairs
Donations can be brought to the Fellowship Hall. If you are in need of help transporting your items, OR if you can help to transport items for others, please contact Megan Orr at orr.meganh@gmail.com or Julie Kirgis at jkirgis@gmail.com.
Keep an eye out on our various social media channels, Pastor's Corner and Peace Signs emails, and various online messaging for additional information about the next priorities we'll need to address. If you haven't already, sign up to receive email updates at princeofpeacedublin.org.
Thank you for your help!
