State Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Dublin) has introduced Senate Bill 212, a measure aimed at safeguarding Ohio's children from exposure to online pornography. The bill seeks to restrict minors' access to pornographic websites by requiring age verification.

According to Senator Kunze, the legislation is crucial in protecting children from adult content online. She emphasized the importance of the General Assembly coming together to prioritize the health and safety of Ohio's youth. Kunze expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Senator DeMora and Lt. Governor Husted on this significant bill.

Senate Bill 212 proposes that businesses distributing pornographic material online must verify the age of individuals accessing their websites. Age verification will be conducted through an independent, third-party verification service. However, the bill also includes provisions to ensure that the third party does not retain personal information after granting or denying access.

The introduction of this legislation comes in response to the growing concern about the impact of explicit material on vulnerable populations, particularly children. Currently, eight other states, including Utah, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Montana, Virginia, and North Carolina, have enacted similar measures to protect minors from online pornography.

Efforts such as Senate Bill 212 are essential in curbing the prevalence of online pornography and safeguarding the mental well-being of young individuals. The harmful effects of exposure to explicit material and internet addiction necessitate proactive steps to protect Ohio's youth.
